Simmons Bank LED Display
At first, it was a bit of an undertaking ‐ “So we’re planning on adding over 3,000 feet of LED lights to the exterior of the building and we need someone to learn how to program it. Is that something you’d be interested in?” ‐ Thats not something you turn down right?
Our go-live date was set for Independence Day 2019. The weeks leading up to it were filled with late nights at the office, sometimes after midnight. There was a lot of standing outside on the phone with the technicians inside, staring up at the building having conversations like: “YES thats it! Wait… never mind now the East side is wrong…”
Independence day arrived, the sun was going down and I had a serious knot growing in my stomach. Media was going to be there plus the Simmons Bank CEO and several of my colleagues. All of which honestly didn’t know what to expect. Considering that I finished the show file about an hour before the big launch, you could say my confidence was faltering a bit. But when sunset finally came, we lit up the River Market for the first time. To this day I remember the high I felt that night.
This is in no way a one man show. Our facilities department takes charge of all hardware related tasks. Without support from others on the marketing team, it would be an unorganized mess. The show literally couldn’t go one without the guys from Arkansas Sign who hang off the side of the building replacing faulty lights whether it’s below freezing or 95 degrees out. And Cranford & Co, a local ad agency, is largely responsible for some of our best designs.
I refer to it as my “work hobby”. Hit a wall with the website? Great time to switch gears and design a new addition to the Little Rock skyline. It’s an honor to work on this project. Below are a few of my favorite designs:
